Who makes those little PAINT SHAKERS???

I once saw a little paint shaker that you use on those small Model RR paints. Does anyone know who makes those?

Thanks
Michael

I saw one in a micro-mark catalog once

Micro-Mark sells one for $37.95.

Not sure if there is any debate, but instead of shaking what if you rolled (rotated) the bottles quickly between two… rollers - because that’s exactly what some article in a past MR described, how the author build a set of rollers in a stand out of wood, and attached some cheap electric motor (not sure what type) to power it - he claimed it was very effective, and it would be much cheaper to build than 37 bucks (particularly if you can salvage the motor from some worn out household appliance).

If you are using acrylic paint like Badger Accuflex, their instructions say to stir and not shake their paint, as it introduces air bubbles that take a while to settle down. As I use both this paint and Floquil, I have to remember which to shake!

I wouldn’t mind having a mini-paint shaker. My paint will sit on the shelf for months at a time.

I’ve spent quite a bit of time shaking bottles rapidly from paint that’s separated from its binder.

I got this one from MicroMark. It works really well.

Try putting a medium sized nut and bolt fastened together in the paint jar. When you shake it, it acts the same way a spray paint can does and mixes the paint. I do this when I first use the paint and it helps me know when the paint is mixed enough when shaking it. If a paint jar sits for a long time, I’ve heard that setting the bottom of the paint jar in warm water for a while loosens the material settled in the bottom, as well.

On the subject of paints, I quit buying the Floquil stuff after I discovered acrylic paints at the Hobby Lobby for ridculously low prices. As little as 44 cents a bottle compared to $3 for the Polly-S paints. In addition, they come in far greater variety of colors and mix easily so you can create almost any color you want. Part of the fun is mixing it in differenct combinations to see what you get. This allows me to create unique shades of concrete and brick for each structure I build and also thin with water for brick mortar. I keep numerous shades of black, gray, white, brown and brick red on hand just for that purpose. I also keep the rainbow colors on hand as well. You’ll want to thin these with water for most applications but you can make them as thick or as thin as you want.

I have the one from Micro Mart and it doesn’t work when the paint is settled. Use the mini-stirrer they have - it works much better.

Good one! LOL[:D]
(although it was actually “shaken, not stirred”)

What do I know? I’m a beer drinker myself.

Same here. But I still thought it was a good one![:D]

Micromark’s battery-operated stirring-thingamajig really does work much better, and only costs around $10

And since nobody mentioned it, if you put bolts in you paint jars, make sure they’re brass if you’re using water-based paints so they don’t rust[:0]

10 bucks is a good price. I usually just get my wife to shake them, its free and fun to watch, lol.

I actually built my own stirrer , took an old lid drilled a small hole through it inserted a brass tube to which I had attached two homemade propeller blades. I attach the cap to the paint that needs stirred and use my dremel to power it (low speed of course) I built it many years ago and still use it.

God does. They’re called hands and arms! [:D]

(That was a real smarty pants answer, huh?)

This is slightly off topice, but I’ve been told to store my paints upside down. Any truth to this suggestion.
