My son just informed that I need to have wolves and deer in my forest. A quick search of eBay drew a blank. I have 4 coyotes, but as my son points out, they are just too small and skinny. He’s set on wolves.
For his sake, I think I need to separate the wolves and deer just a tad. He just wouldn’t understand.
Reminds me of the comic where a guy was modeling an n scale aquarium and need really teeny fish. Good luck with the search.
I’ve been through the Walther’s catalog looking for wildlife, finding moose, bear, deer, elk (reindeer), raccoons, rabbits and skunks, but no luck with wolves. The staff at my LHS drew a blank on wolves too, and suggested repainting some German Sheperds instead. I haven’t even seen any good Sheperds yet, but I’m still looking.
If I find something useful, I’ll let you know.
Chip–Preiser makes some awfully good deer–I’ve got about three herds worth on my Yuba River Sub, and probably more coming. As to wolves, they’re next to impossible to find (and by the turn of the 20th century were extinct in California, right along with the grizzly bear), so you might want to think of some black bears or mountain lions (which you can probably find–check the Walther’s HO catalogue under ‘figures’).
Jeffers has a good idea, though, if you really have to have wolves–repaint some German Shepherds a tannish gray. At 1:87 scale, I doubt you’ll have many Rivet-counter ‘Naturalists’ looking through microscopes at them and complaining, LOL!

Dept 56 sells wolves, as well as a host of other animals that look very good and very real in the layout. We have many that we use in the Christmas village display.
http://www.dept56.com They do n ot sell to the public, but you can view all the stuff.
So you will have to go to stores in your area that sell Dept 56 village items.
I’m lucky to find stores in my area that sell gound foam. Any internet retailers carry Dept 56?
Our railroad club has some deer (and chickens). I’ll ask someone there where we go them and i’ll let you know.
Greyfox,
I found a couple wolfmen, but no wolves. Can you give me an exact URL?
re. HO wolves. Try O scale coyotes
Hi Chip:
While I don’t know of a source for O scale coyotes, you might be able to get by with an O scale fox, although you’d want to work on the face and tail a little. Less bushy tail, and wider face for a wolf.
Duncan Models from England has an O scale fox (that’s British O scale at 1/43.) You can see what it looks like, and order one from Figures n Bits, an online retailer for O scale details.
The URL for their website is: http://www.figuresnbits.com/index.htm
You can find the fox at: http://www.figuresnbits.com/catalog/product_info.php/manufacturers_id/26/products_id/1559
Hope this helps some. Wolves are hard to come by, it seems.
