Forgot to mention I had a nice visit with a UPY switcher crossing in front of me at a remote crossing today… It didn’t have a gate on this road but an overhead flashing light.
Do they let wheelchairs into York? Wes, we need to find out what we need to do from someone so they let us in the door. Congrats on the anniversary. Tell the Mrs. the same.
On the way Doug and Jim! Buckeye, if they say they don’t allow wheelchairs, just invoke the Americans with Disabilities act of 1994. That should scare them straight on that issue! Get well soon, Chief and keep those bedbugs at bay!
Honey-do list is growing for the weekend [(-D] Will make time for a steak and some Sam Adams, that’s for sure. What was that beer you recommended once, Doug? Something with “moon” in it? At least I learned my lesson from Laz, no fruit in da beer! Laz, come on over and we’ll have a couple cold ones!
Kurt, if you want to call some morning this weekend (not too early!) that would be great - same to any of yuz giz! Got drywall plans with Sir James too, though!
Got back home from the shore Wednesday morning. We had a 7.1 surround system installed Saturday before we left. The system consists of a Denon 7.1 reciever, 5 Definitive Technology Speaker, 1 Definitive Technologies Sub woofer, and 2 Bose outdoor speakers. The setup has the 5 speakers and the sub inside and the 2 Bose speakers outside. The reciever is dual zone capable, which means I can watch T.V. inside and my parents can play music outside. As of now, only one Bose speaker is operating. The Geek Squad guys were at my house from 10 AM until 11 PM. They’re coming back Saturday morning to finish the installation. But the system sounds amazing. I watched Shooter and you hear everything, and I mean the shards of glass that fly out from windows after a sniper shot hits a propane tank which cause the house to blow up.
Speaking of large cars, I couldn’t turn down the opportunity to drive a Mercedes S430 4Matic for the whole month of September. I was suprised how easy to drive it is, and the parking is really easy too. However, there are some spots where it is very troubling to park. but other than that the car is awesome! It accelerates like no other (probably because it has a 4.3L V8) for a vehicle of its weight and size, (only tried the acceleration on the highway, not illegally either), the ride is smooth and is very user friendly. I actually find my dad’s Chrysler 300 to be more challenging to drive.
Just a quick check in to let folks now I have not fallen off of the face of the earth. Opening has been great at the new school. Still developing new routines for dismissal and traffic patterns, etc. Having some technical issues with some Dell 2400MP projectors. Have a tech services rep coming today. Biggest problem so far is the noise from the students chairs on tile floor above us. The second floor is a concrete deck poured in a metal pan with steel girders supporting the metal pand and the deck. No insulation to speak of between the drop ceiling on the first floor and the floor of the second level. Kids stand up and move their chairs and it sounds like a heard of elephants is thundering above us. Need to work out a solution. We may have to ask each child to bring in a can of tennis balls and we will slice them and put them on the chair legs. I have got the sales rep for the chairs running in circles trying to find a solution too.
Brent: We have XM, and it’s great, especially when travelling. Or just buy CD’s. 5-jazz channels. I listen to the traditional, contemporary, and standards.
Wes: Happy Anniversary!
mitchelr: Try laying acoustical batt insulation on the ceiling tiles. Careful about running the isulation over the lights. They need to be rated to do so. Ask your architect. Second floor carpet or carpet squares?
62 and damp, hardly any rain yesterday. Wouldn’t you know it though right when we were to play GOLF the heavens opened up and result was NO GOLF. Oh well at least I didn’t loose.
Sunny with chance of rain in SE Indiana (typical Hoosier weather). Lucas survived first day at IU with help from his sister and mom (long story). Can’t say the same for the soccer kids. “My” soccer girls got pounded by arch-rival 7-0. It was a road game (maybe glad I did not see that one). Watched the boys lose 5-3 in a game that featured 4 (count 'em, 4) penalty kicks. Normally one is the most you see, two is rare and four does not occur unless there is a shoot-out. Each team had two and all four were made. Friends from Chicago coming down this weekend. IRL is at Detroit this Sunday. Hope AJ’s team can make up for the disaster at Sonoma. I had the usual fare on the dining car. I hope everyone has a good day. Congrats to all those with anniversaries, and hope all who are ailing get better. Good to hear from you, TMCC man. CNW1995, I remember the kindergarten days. Enjoy them now as they slip away from you.
Fife - Don’t know yet about York. I really need to sit down, go over finances, and get into the train room to see what - if anything - I need. If nothing else I may just do a half day like I did in April.
As for XM/Sirius my concern is that if you buy a receiver now that after the merger you’ll have to buy another receiver to get all the channels. I had XM back when I drove Chevies and really liked it. Seems there are a few dead zones along the PA turnpike and I-70 south of Breezewood, PA before you enter MD… but in MD there was service everywhere… guess it’s all that hi-tech gagetry in PA causing interferance? [:-^] Either that or the ‘god father’ isn’t getting his cut of the revenue…
Best of Luck to Lucas! Glad to see the younger generation continuing the fight.
Colin - Denon = good stuff. I have a Pioneer 7.1 system and have all 8 speakers in my family room with the ‘B’ front channel amps running two outdoor speakers. Can’t listen to two different sources at the same time, but it is nice when we have gatherings.
I have been thinking about looking into the whole second source thing as I have an old amp that I could use…
Just too much going on right now in my life. The job switch was good, but it really caused a huge shift in the work time/free time paradigm…
I had scope to clean up torn miniscus 2 years ago (only 1 knee) & walked out after procedure with cane. Follow instructions about cold compress, etc & you will do fine. I had it done on a Thursday & was back at work on Monday & started physical therapy 1 week after surgery. Toughest thing was taking shower with plastic bag on my leg for the 1st 3 days while the bandage wrap was on. Good luck!
Hey y’all (hey, got to blend in with dem Rebs![swg])
XM/Sirius is going to be “backward compatable”, so anything anybody has will work for both. I’m just going to upgrade once the merger completes.
Wes - Happy “A” day… I waited until I was 34 (maybe shoulda waited until I was 40 [:-^])
TMCC - good to see ya
Mike - When my son left for Rutgers, it was a big hole, expected him to be there, but was not. The flip side was my daughter kept us “entertained”. Graduated in '01, and we have him back in the house.
Up to 91 & LOTS of humidity again, had a HUGE Thunderstorm for about 45 minutes, dumped and poured, like we need MORE rain. A visit from Hannah is expected next week. Just as long as it’s nice THIS weekend.
Brent - see Brutus, I hear that TARDIS thing works really well on time/space issues. If not, read HG Wells[swg] for more ideas!
Brent: Forgot to add…Winton Marsalis has a great Histoy of Jazz show on XM Saturday mornings.
I need to hook up another speaker (2-channel stereo one-speaker) for the Bride in the Kitchen so she can hear her shows while cooking. Our speakers are a bit directional, and only 5.1. [sigh]
I’m hoping for some rain here, as we need it. It hasn’t rained here in a good 2 weeks.
This was really random. I was sitting in the basement playing Xbox live, and my dad came downstairs and stated that he wants to build the garden RR. I just looked at him. I asked him if he was sure about that because I’m going off to college next year, and my life this year won’t exactly have time for a lot of hobbies. He told me yes he knows and he’s still for it. So I don’t know when this project will be undertaken.
Have a good day everyone.
PS Mike C., I jumped back into soccer. My doctor cleared me and I start practices Wednesday night. I’m a little worried about playing again but I’m sure that’ll pass.
Morning all. Sunny and warm here this morning - I am working at home - but just walked over with my youngest to drop him off at kindergarten - a great way to start the day. Going to bring lunch to a friend whose bride has been very sick (for months) - it’s his birthday tomorrow too and he doesn’t get much of a break.
Buckeye, TGIF.
Brutus, that beer would be a Blue Moon.
Gary, welcome to the Pot. Glad your knee is fine a few years later.
I like to find obscure local stations when I have the chance to drive across the country. Sometimes I just listen to AM for the call-ins, preachers, local news and talk shows.
Looks like we need to prepare for a couple more tropical storms again, one going up near Tallahassee FL and Texas/Mexico border and the other trying to come near Miami FL. HEY we need to dry out down here!!
Not much planned for the weekend or Labor Day(I have to work on Labor Day, get almost $150.00 for the day at work). Going to my parents on saturday in Stuart FL, just an hour away by car.
Happy weekend… Well the rain we were suppose to get traveled south of us, strange the snow never does that. But here I am kinda ready for another day. No grass to cut, didn’t grow without rain. windows open only in the 70s. Train plans for the day are unknown at this time so have to report in tonite. Enjoy your friday…S.J.
