Worked all day in the yarden, cut grasss, did edging on the flower bed, took out 12 wheel barrows of grass and dirt. Got mulch, gonna start tomorrow? Then go fishin.
Had a great fire with wife tonite and ate steaks on fire place, then ran trains for an hour all ran good, no pile ups.
Anybody remember the Mad Magazine take-off on batman? That was hilarious and I esp loved the ending - I’m a vampire Bat Boy, snip snip slurrrrp! What, me worry?
Picked up a new train book at Borders tonight: The Illustrated Directory of Trains of the World. Lots of cool pics and info. My son’s fieldtrip was cancelled due to all the rain, so I went in to work, but did take off 2 hours early intending to meet the family at the mall. That didn’t work out, though, as my wife was watching our friends’ son until about 6. Had chinese food and guess what, I’m hungry!
Late night. Watching a movie. Did some more wiring and running trains before I came down and fixed dinner [late].
Dennis and Zeke, Ft. Hood!!! Some of my fishing buddies live in Temple and Copperas Cove. Been fishing in big lake there [can’t remeber the name right now] where there is a peacan grove surmurged.
thats interesting…i was stationed at benning and lived in columbus …thats some beautiful country right there…i was stationed there my whole 11 years…made e-5 twice…sergent was all i ever wanted…i dont mind being in charge of a few things but i am not leader …i am a grunt! always will be…
Mornin’ boys. Mornin’ Zeke; you’re a bit of a night-owl, eh? Fair today in the Mid-Atlantic region; calling for sprinkles tonight.
anjdevil - That orange slushi-thing-a-mabob sounds good.
88 - there is a Hooters around the corner from me. Perhaps a recon mission for wings is in order after next operating session.[tup]
Laz57 - break up those INDIANS! Mrs fifedog and I also had steak last night, but no fire…[zzz]
kblester - congratulations on your daughter’s good news…
wrmclellan - speaking of daughters; Roy, know of any good girl’s prep military schools in North Texas. There’s a bunch in Virginia—but they’re toooooo close.[banghead]
well being disabled i live in my time…i cant work so i just do what i want when i want…i still only sleep like 4 hrs a day…dang military done that to me…
well i was in my train room/old extra garage constructing my table for my layout…and i am done building my table and pleased with my work…its only two sheets of 3/4 plywood right now…and i have them set like a T up against a wall…temporarily till i get some more stuff moved out…nice and sturdy and level…thats important…and i got some lighting setup so i can see what i am doing…now…my next step…
Brent - Try Bill Bateman’s - There are a few of them around. There’s a Bateman’s in the southern end of Hanover Pa (just north of Manchester) and another in Reisterstown, and Severna Park too. I think the original Bateman’s is in Towson or Cockeysville area. I love their wings. I think one night a week they have an all you can eat special too. They just opened one at BWI too.
It is a cloudy 58 degrees. Going up to only 68 today. Good chance of rain showers later. I hope not.
Today, I am taking it easy. Did a lot of work, outside, the last few days. Looks good. We are having company, this afternoon. Wife’s niece and son. I will run trains this afternoon. Four year old has about 10 minutes of interest, then wants to go play. I need some relaxing time.
Bateman’s had good wings, not great. I guess I’m a bit of a wings snob because I was spoiled for so long. The problem I have with wings down here is they are cooked too long and they just douse them with Frank’s Hot Sauce, thems not wings! Bateman’s didn’t cook em too long, but their sauce was just missing something… nice spice though.
Hooters has OK wings, about the same as Bateman’s… but their scenery tends to be a bit nicer to look at. But I would be game for a recon mission after runnin’ trains… I’m hoping to be able to host a session at the new house before Christmas… I know, lofty goal, but I think I can get something decent done!
Waiting for the furniture people to drop off the new sofa… wife is brewing coffee and making sticky buns! [dinner] Now if I could just get her to make pancakes, eggs, homefries, and sausage then I would be in heaven![dinner][dinner][dinner][dinner]
Have to mow and bag the lawn today, then take old sofa to the dump…
Question - What’s the optimum operating temperature for smoke fluid?
Finally had a couple of thunder storms roll through the last two nights, we needed the rain bad. Its the first rains to reach us in, probably, more than a month. Since I covered the store Thurs. and Fri. I’m off today. But that doesn’t mean no work, we’re doing some painting and the stairway to the 2nd floor is today’s task. It took a while to figure out how I was going to reach to the ceiling. Ended up buying a 16’ ext. ladder, adding leg levelers, and making up a stand to bring up one step, leg levelers were 12" needed 16" since the ladder is 24" wide. Hopefully this gets done this morning and I can run some trains this afternoon.
Recently the only trains I get time to run is the display at work. (Who said you have more time for yourself after retirement?) When its slow I change engines and the consists around. Suprisingly the kids, 5 yrs. +/-, that routinely come in for their weekly train fix with mom or dad do notice the changes.
Looks like more rain, yea!, unless the clouds break up
Morning. Off to train meet. Wings??? The best I’ve had was in St. Cloud [St. Louis]. In shopping center where Bass Pro Shops is located. Wings and sports bar. HOT!!! and good.
Cloudy but no real rain. Hope for some tonight.
Train cars with possible toxic chemicals overturned in KS from tornado. Prayers for the people and town damaged.
Fife and Brent - Sounds like a plan. There’s also a place in Gettysburg called The PIKE which is on Baltimore Street (Rt 97) a couple miles north of the outlets on the left that has decent wings too.
Only a person whom is a knight of the realm can prefix his name with ‘Sir’ and that title is either inherited or bestowed by Her Majesty the Queen.
Two of our elderlies have gone missing, last heard of at the Kentucky Derby (and Joan club). Give 'em a wave from we in TOGdom, tell them not hurry back.
Hope every one has a good weekend, we are on a bank holiday, which means that the fine weather we have enjoyed for the last few days will probably turn to rain.
Cloudy here. We have had lots of rain and I think most of the lakes have refilled finally. It has rained so much the holes around my house they dug for the foundation piers are full of water and the ground is so saturated it is not being absorbed. The foundation company comes on Monday to jack up the house and set the blocks to hold it there.
Finally uppacked all my York purchases. I got a lot of stuff this year.
Picked up a mint/unopened modern Bascule Bridge for $250.
Got several O gauge prewar freight cars - Shell tank car, couple of box cars, hopper - all for about $20-25 each.
Picked up a nice Pre-war 1941 Freight set for $275 with a 224E loco and all operating cars.
Got a new MTH Dispatch board for $35.
Bag of 3 plasticville signal bridges for $5
Weaver war emergency gondola for $25
Couple of MTH prewar repros (box cars) for $60 each
Lot of other stuff for repairs and some Williams powered chassis to build some custom track cleaning cars for the Lionel layouts in NY for next holiday season.
Jim, I have that engine in PRR. It runs great, has nice sounds and whistle. Smokes like crazy. It is on the layout right now as it is most of the time as my 4 & 6 year old granddaughters love to run it.
Good afternoon! Hot and dry today - no rain, unfortunately. [:(]
CityFest was fun today. Our church gave out several hundred bottles of water and pre-registered a bunch of kids for Vacation Bible School in June. Lots of arts & crafts displays, food, vintage cars, etc. Chief - Bass Pro Shops had a tent this year. Talked to a lady there who said they were on schedule to open later this summer. One vendor had a bunch of die-cast cars. Some nice ones, but most much larger than O scale.
Took the family to Jim & Nicks BBQ. Had ribs, beans and potato salad. Love their cheese biscuits!
Enjoyed seeing the queen on TV yesterday. She’s the same age as my mother, so I kind of have soft spot for her, even if I’m not one of her subjects. No offense, Nick & John B. but I don’t care much for Prince Charles. Is there any chance Andrew could be king after Queen Elizabeth?
Wow, It was almost 48 hours since I last loged in and it took me forever to read all the posts. Yesterday was shopping day so I followed Jean around most of the day. Took a break and sat on a bench for a while reading (outside in the sun) and sunburned the bald head. Now bright red and hurting! Guess old age doesn’t make one smarter, just older.
Today was spent outside pressure washing the vinyl picket fence and the siding.
Zeke, [bday] . I too was Army, reported to Fort Knox 46 years ago today, the Kentucky Derby was run that day, don’t know what date it was.
Mitch, Hope you make out OK with the interview.
John Baker, Are you not anxious for the Queen to come back home? [:-^][:D][;)][:)]
I might actually run some trains for a while after I finish this post.
