Good morning from a sunny and warm Chicago where it is suddenly summer - supposed to be in the 80s today. I came home last eve to find the middle boy had taken my hint and cut the grass - ah, there’s a benefit of having teenagers – on the opposite side, the daughter is taking her driving permit test today. With this months’s cascade of bills, I may end up with just a modeling magazine for my birthday. Have to tell my bride about Melissa Gilbert - she’s a big LHotP fan.
I saw an odd sight in North Ave. yard as I passed it this morning. A Burro crane off it trucks - just sitting aslant on the ground, right by the Chicago Terminal Railroads switcher. Wonder what happened or how they got it ‘off’.
Hello All! Doug M - Good Luck with your Daughter Driving. Hope you do not need a Crash Helmet when riding with her![;)][;)][:)] Zeke- The Waterfall in your Photo looks like the one from the Lagoon in “Gilligan’s Island”. Was the Skipper there also?[4:-)][4:-)][;)][8D][:D]. Jim A- If the Chief is in the running for Mayor of Munchkinland; Then the Munchkins will have a Grits Revolt similar to the Boston Tea Party.[;)][:D][:P][:)] Take Care.
Morning all. Lets see if I remember all the replies I want to post. If I forget someone, forgive me [I’d love to forget Buckeye [:-^]].
Mitch, praying you get the job. If not, the Lord has a good reason why and something else will come your way that is better. Have faith.
Brent, might try the sause Saturday on pork loin [wife’s whole family is coming for hot dogs and pork bar-be-que, that is a big bunch of folks too].
Buckeye, not hot and sticky and humid in NC. Actually windy and dry. Think NC got moved to Chicago. Coast is having big NE’er with hawling winds. We did have a mist of rain a few minutes ago but dried up from wind. BTW: can’t take pictures of fish you don’t catch. [(-D]
We made the big coup yesterday with County EMS. They were going to take Rolesville’s EMS second duty truck away. We bought it and we finance it b ut County now run fire and EMS. They thought they could run us but County Commissioners turned it around and they suddenly agreed with us. County Commissioners voted in our favor yesterday. Actually a big upset tot he system but allowed the Fire/EMS Leaders tosave face.
Think it is train time.
[BTW: filing for mayor is August, vote Nov. and winner takes office first meeting in Dec. for 4 year term. may not run, I still have 2 1/2 years term on Board. mayor would be almost full time job and no Pro Mariner].
Chief, we’ve never used the sauce on pork… for pork we mix 1 cup no-pulp OJ with 4 Tablespoons of Brown Sugar… the vinegar sauce is more of a poultry sauce… I’m doing ham slices for dinner tonight so will use the chicken sauce and let you know what I think…
Chief, you are right. You can’t take pictures of the fish you didn’t catch. In our case, we didn’t even put the camera in the boat due to the weather. I did get to do something I had never done before and that was cut my partners line when he hooked a fish that was too big to get in the boat. He unfortunately hooked a huge Carp. Before it broke the surface, we thought he had the biggest bass ever caught in Kentucky. [;)]
When I go fishing It is my luck to always catch a turtle[sigh] I like to fish for pearch at Lake Erie, localy I go to Alum Creek, Deer Creek and Hargus lake(not sure if spelled right). As a kid we used to go to Hideaway hills near Lancaster Ohio, wish we would have kept our lot as they had a nice lodge/resturant and a pool as well as many lakes and ponds to fish at.
yes these were in shasta county…in mcarthur state park…such a beautiful waterfall…i wonder if it could be copied in my layout…lol…lots of skill there i think …that i lack ant the moment…
thats why i live in northern california…for sites like these…i love the mountains…
Afternoon. Watered garden plants and wife’s newly planted flowers. Cloudy but Yanks sucked all the moisture from them before they got to us. [:O] Praying for rain this evening and tonight. Oh, they are forecasting rain. Heard that one before. [sigh] Got the parts to make bracket for smoke unit for Conrail dummy. Later
Worked outside all day today. Wore out. Going to a NRHS meeting this evening with a friend. Don’t know what the program is, guess I will find out. Tomorrow is TCA Museum day which is good, don’t think I can stand two days in a row working in the garden/lawn/greenhouse.

well im just gonna relax inside in the ac today…have a good after noon everyone
Good evening from my class - as my students work independently on a project - this is one time I can drop in for a quick cup. Beautiful day here today in Chicago - dry though - I’m going to an all-day Microsoft sponsored seminar tomorrow so I am essentially trading a free lunch for a day of catching up with work. Hope you are all well this evening!
Got my 4-4-2 today from Charles RO - runs great! Took a minute to figure out which switch was the smoke unit and which was the reverser, since it’s printed backwards in the manual? I had it pulling 2 coal cars, 3 PW log dump cars, a flat car and a caboose without any problems except once, when it shorted in a O27 turnout. Having read Thor’s thread today, I think I’m gonna get a gauge and see if the front wheels are falling down in the front? That switch always sparks pretty good when cars go through it anyway, so I suspect that it’s the switch. Ran for about 1/2 hour before helping my son make dinner. No rain in STL today and high about 82 I think. At least they go the AC working at the office. Anyway, TTFN!
Evening all. Watched K. Hepburn on TMC with wife until she went to sleep. Got to book flight to Phoenix for June. Got new Atlas catalog today [Golden Spike Club]. Watered all the plants and then we got a misty rain. Every bit helps but need an inch or more. Goood night all. Microwave popcorn time. [:D]
It was a beautiful, sunny day at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway today with temps in the 80s. The cars were running fast and the crowd was fairly large for a practice session. We watched “Veronica Mars” and it was good as well. I got my wife tickets to “Spamalot” for her birthday/ Mother’s Day present and she liked that as well. I voted in the primary and it was a good day all the way around. I hope everyone has a good day.
Nope, this is a Lionel O27 4-4-2 with horn and smoke. After further running, I’ll say it runs great and will pull every car I’ve got at the same time! Unfortunately, my layout isn’t big enough to test that theory, but I think I’m right! Good value for a $90 locomotive. I need to heed the advice I was given, though, and put some tape underneath to block the light from shining down on the track in front.
Mike C - I saw Spamalot and it was great! BTW, the Mississippi is expected to hit about 32 to 37 feet which will flood some parking garages downtown by Sunday - they are closing flood gates just in case. Spot storms expected all week. Nowhere near the flood in 93, which almost reached 50 feet though [:O] Wish I could send this rain to a certain 'ville in NC or down to you guys in GA.
Doug M, how is it in Chicago? You guys having flooding or anything? Sounds like you will soon have a statewide smoking ban - I won’t complain. Arnold passed a smoking ban (separate room with separate HVAC is still okay) and it’s great to be able to eat wherever you want and not have to worry about taking the kids.
