Favorite loco. do you have one?

Hello all, just started here at the first of the mouth don’t know if the question has been asked or not. Do you have a favorite loco and if so what? Mine is the Pennsylvania K4 Pacific . I have in American Flyer two 312’s and a 310 the 310 was my grandfather’s rember runing it as a kid. Just wondered if anyone else had a similar story, please share and thank you.

Mine is the N&W Y6b. It’s the pinnacle of steam technology imo

My old Roundhouse 4-4-2 Atlantic, hot rod of the steam-drawn passenger era. It’s the late ‘50s on my pike, though, so it often pulls a short hot-shot or milk train.

AmFlyer1, the Gilbert 312 is a very nice engine. I have more than my share but not enough. Be aware, the Gilbert engine is a model of the K5, not the K4.
My favorite is the Gilbert Hudson J3a, 322AC. That was part of my first train set and still have that set in Excellent condition.

it nice to know that other people love trains as much as I do thank all for sharing. i’m glade I found this forum!

I had no idea the 312 was a k5 all this time I thought it was a k4 thank you AmFlyer Tom I’m reading info on it now.

I like the oddball stuff myself. For me it’s things like the SD 26 or CF7 you know the rebuilds of worn-out stuff into things EMD or GE never ever thought were possible. Another one that has a spot in my heart is the SF30C Santa Fe showing GE that yes it was possible to rebuild your stuff and not throw it away.

Simple. This one! The very first bicentennial locomotive: Seaboard Coast Line U36B No. 1776.

For me, it has to be the EMD GP20. I have kitbashed 9 old Mantua/Tyco shells with Athearn drives. Hard not to say that after that many. The picture is an example of one. No, it hasn’t gone through the digital paint shop. This is the actual color. It is a tribute engine to my late grandmother. Her favorite color was pink and she funded quite a bit of my hobby when I first started out. The 3101 is the date she passed (March 1, 2001).

Here is a picture of a Gilbert PRR K5 pulling six Lionel AF PRR heavyweights on my layout. It is a very nice engine.

Here is a picture of my original 1950 Gilbert J3a Hudson. The Hudson is on the layout turntable. I doubt that when my dad bought his one year old a Gilbert train set he imagined it would be on my layout turntable in 2024.

I have two favourites.

A class 52 diesel number 1027 ‘Western Lancer’ and
a Class 55 diesel number 55023 ‘9th Queen’s Royal Lancers’

Both in honour to my father who was in that Regiment.

(Only 22 Class 55s were ever built. The 9th was never among them. I named a 23rd one as such)

Gotta be either an E Unit or F Unit, painted in Santa Fe’s Warbonnet scheme.

One favorite was the two electrics built by GE in late 1957 for the B.A.&P., which looked a cross between the VGN C-C electrics and GE’s 70 ton diesels.
