Something that caught my attention from Darth Santa Fe’s YouTube video about restoring an original Athearn, Metal-shell RDC, was that the Front-end is like the Proto model, with non-ribbed Panels and large Cab Windows.

However, later Athearn, Plastic-shell models have Ribbed Panels with Fluting and the smaller Cab Windows.


I’ve wondered why Athearn opted for the Ribbed Front-end version, when they already had the Metal-shell established and it would be nice to get my hands on one of these and restore it like how Darth did his.
