Thats a 4 page thread on Model Railroader forum started by hon30critter. I think its interesting.
At one time I had three V8 Vegas plus two more parts cars. My last one was a fast street strip car I drove regularly. The engine went bad and I worked and worked on it for eight years completly redoing it. I retired during this time, the engine was really a drag racing engine and I just never wanted to drive such a radical car, I had become much more conserative. Selling it was difficult for me. I had been V8 Vega ever since I got a computer including email.
My name is pretty common, so it was taken already when I went to register here. So jwse30 is my first and last initials jw, and se30 is from another hobby of mine. The se30 is an old Macintosh computer that is fairly upgradeable for its time. I’ve used this combination on quite a few sites, and knock on wood, it’s always been available.
Back some time ago I tried to do the name traincollector for a email address well it was takened so I added the first letter to me last name infront of it and ended up with Rtraincollector and some on here shortened it to RT so rtraincollector came from an email address and my nick name here is RT
Thanks for asking this question. I’ve wondered about the origins of some of the names that folks use here on the forum.
The northern part of Wisconsin is referred to as the North Woods. You will see that term used in advertising and in the name of numerous businesses. Wausau is just about at the center of the state and is something of the gateway to the North Woods. The Milwaukee Road Valley Line ran through Wausau and the iconic shrouded Hiawathas carried passengers and tourists all the way to Star Lake. One of those trains was named The North Woods Hiawatha.
My primary interest in toy train collecting has always been for the equipment manufactured by American Flyer at any time during its existance. I started with Gilbert S gauge - which I had as a child, and my interest has spread to all things Flyer.
Hence, when I was searching for a forum name (and an on-line name in general) I chose to honor the history of the area in which I live and to declare my primary interest in American Flyer; and so I chose:
I use the same name everywhere I go on the internet. I’ve had the same 1981 Jeep Scrambler since the day I graduated from college back in 1986. I’ve become rather attached to it…the Jeep and the name.
Note to Mr. Vega - I dropped a mildly tweaked 350 into my Scrambler back in 1987, and ran it for 14 years. Currently it is running a TBI 305. Lost some bottom end, but it is so darn smooth and reliable.
My parents last name was Hohmann, and they named me Joe. Fortunatly, there is no one to carry on the name ( even though I have 7 Grandchildren), since no one ever spells or pronounces it correctly.[(-D]
My forum name comes from the Firesteel river in Upper Michigan. The Copper Range Railroad built three large trestles, named appropriately the Firesteel Bridges, to cross the river valley. These trestles still exist and are now part of the snowmobile trail system.
Years and years ago a high school friend of mine came up with a name for my then non-prototypical N-scale layout. In revenge for my naming one of the principle towns on my layout after him.
After a play on my last name, he christened it the SCUM RR - (SCUM standing for Stebby Central Unevenly Maintained). Which I then shortened to Stebby Central. It just seemed logical to employ it as my forum name as well.
