Went to Oklahoma City with the robot team last week for their first compitetion. We ended up being ranked 43 out of 63 teams after the qualification rounds. Kind of frustrating, as we were doing much better than the ranking - in most of the qualification matches, we scored either the majority or all of the points. Turned out well, as we got picked by the #2 seated team when it came time to to choose the alliances for the finals. We made it into the semi finals before being elliminated.
Been spending time this week with the robotics team thrashing on improvements for the robot. Hopefully, we will get the new parts finished and on tested on the practice robot before packing up for the Kansas City meet this weekend.
Sterggeon Phish - I bought a Garmin 64S. It is their previous generation of GPS units, so the value for the price is pretty good. It uses both the US and Russian satalites to pick position. The stock map pckage is not great - it only shows the major roads, but better map packages can be loaded. I haven’t taken time to figure that out yet. It also gives altitude both by correlating location against the topo map and by reading barametric pressure. The altitude accuracy is something like +/- 20 feet.
If you get a 64 SC, it includes a camera. That would be handy to document your landmark is once you find it.
I thought it was supposed to be warming up? It’s 22° this morning! Spring ain’t here yet.
Went to see How To Potty Train Your Dragon To Do A Number Two, or something like that, last night with the boys. Not bad. Had to do a rollout after that at 10, fortunately that went smoothly and was done shortly after 11.
Yesterday at work, around 3-4, the sun came out and really heated up the building. Got to 80° at my desk. Yech! For some reason the HVAC system wasn’t kicking in the AC to cool down our office. Hope that we don’t have more of the same today.
Back from delivering Mrs to work, not sure what the day will bring.
Definitly proud of all the grandkids
Roy…to insert a photo from shutterfly I have to open the photo full size, selecting it from an album won’t work. Then right click and choose Copy image location. Then in the insert image box right click and paste the link. You also have to put something, anything in the alternate text box or the image description depending on which forum. Not sure why but that’s how I do it.
Something interesting I noticed at the Everett railroad.
Quiet day at work. Good walking weather. Got license tags on vehicles tonight. Local cinema has 10 screens and none have Captain Marvel. May have to go out of town to see that. I hope everyone has a good day.
Not much going on here. About the only thing I did today was try to crack a deal on this. To build it out new as equiped it would be more than 17K.
They came down to $13,200, only question is do I want it that much??? It is about a 3 hour drive from here to see it so I would like to just take the cash and trailer with me. Would be a nice day trip for the wife and me.
A hi of 60 today will give us a breath of spring along with the chance of storms this afternoon. Also the spring bulbs have popped up through the ground. A sign of new life.
Good late morning from an overcast 63°F Southern Ohio,
Over the past few days finished powering up the loops, got the spur lines down on the layout, and got an idea to do a little revising of the layout to include using my 790 Trainarama. It will help hide a window over the layout a little.
I’ve been running two trains on the layout adjusting the track and ensuring the runs are straight. So far all is running well. I took the bottom off the 22090 and snugged some screws that mount the coil to the body and it is a bit quieter. I’m going to put the transformer on some dense foam to see if that helps too. Eventually the transformer and control buttons etc. will be mounted in a panel/box which will make it even quieter.
SJ - Our daffodils are starting to bloom, some of them are the ones I planted just a few months ago.
8n - I’m going to see if our Garmin will do coordinates.
Working from home today as I need to pick up Corey from school around 3:45. He’s in chess club. I’ll probably take him out for a slice after that.
Worked out legs and lower torso last night. Don’t know what I did, but my left shoulder bothered me again the whole damn night. Possibly it was the deadlifts - I use a 65 pound diamond bar along with 45 pound plates, but I can’t see it as I do no real shoulder rotation with that. Regardless, it’s still bothering me this morning, although getting better. Funny, but being vertical usually results in the pain lessening or going away completely.
Beautiful day outside. Nice to see the temps finally staying above freezing overnight.
Really windy today. Was following a guy on the highway that was towing a single axle box type utility trailer. He caught a gust of wind that almost knocked his pickup truck and trailer off of the road.
Stergion Phish - The Garmin I just got gives lat/long coordinates to the 4th decimal place. It also has a position averaging feature that refines a waypoint position by taking multiple fixes at least 90 minutes apart (reads different satelites, I supppose). When I was doing this on the various corners of my property, the Garmin would report that it was improving the position of the waypoint by anywhere from 8 feet to 30 feet.
Mornin’ boys. Sprinkles and 63 this morning along the Patterson Creek cut-off, before the “front” comes through. Did my legs/torso workout yesterday, taking displays and lights off the train at Ridgeley. Everything tightened up on me last night. Woof.
Phish - What colors follow lent, Sir?
Chief - Have fun with the kids today.
FYI - Michael’s has a big 50% OFF sale this weekend.
seems like spring might’ve sprung. Snow almost gone, even in the shade, the oak tree is almost bare. Robins returned en emass the other day. I even saw a pair of cardinals at the feeder, a rare occurrance here.
Been doing some cleaning and and sortn in the town house basement to make room for the ensuing plumbing work. Wondering why I stashed some of that stuff instead of chucking it years ago.
Last evening nephew put Tahoe on the lift to explore the gas odor thats been getting stronger. Found a badly rusted fuel line. Just now ordered a prebent fuel line set
Spent a couple of hours on fish fry prep yesterday and today. Now for some house stuff before the fun begins. Last week started with a bang. 701 paid. about 100 over the 1st week average.
So proud of Corey this morning, headed into school in a Hawaiian shirt and shorts!
Really nice outside, supposed to hit the mid to upper 60’s today. Hope that does it for the cold weather.
Once again my shoulder woke me up sometime after 4. This is getting downright annoying, can’t seem to get a full night’s sleep.
Terrible news about what happened in New Zealand. Immediately reached out to a friend there, fortunately he was actually over in Maryland this week. He’s not sure if this will affect his flight back today. I already hate the way the US media is spinning this.
