Fallen Flags:
I model the San Francisco to Monterey area. One end of the layout is San Francisco harbor and the other end is Monterey’s fishing port and Cannery Row. The Southern Pacific ran the “Del Monte” btween the two. I plan to run Short trains pulled by 2-8-0 or Rogers Ten wheelers 4-6-0. A coach, combine, baggage and maybe post office should be my heavyweight consist on the Del Monte. Am I correct there about this classic train consist? I want to run a short WP mixed train out of Oakland or Frisco. What do connaisseurs have to suggest here?
TOM, for contest purposes I say 1234 as the number of post by our undefatigable host.
Nick, no comment on John Hiatt’s citation? How about the passing away of one of blues great, Clarence Gatemouth Brown last sunday? I saw him once in Montreal way back in the 80’s. He was evacuated from New-Orleans but didn’t survive as he was in terminal illness. Goodday all.

What the H - - -! [censored]I will have a beer. I do not want the rumor to get around that I am a tea toatler (did I spell it right?). After all it is 5 PM somewhere in the world.
The mayor of N O moving to Dallas is their gain and our loss. Another reason why we moved from Dallas city to Cedar Creek Lake 2 1/2 years ago. Cedar Creek Lake, being 65 miles southeast of Dallas, is not on the A list of the Al Quida so we feel a little safer. Also the taxes are significantly lower. No city or county hospital tax which is about 1/3 of the tax bill in Dallas. [:)]Yes, the ride in is a tear, however I only have until March 31 when I hang it up. I did get into a van pool that leaves about 6 miles from my house at the lake. The van costs about $140 per month with the variation being for gasoline. I figure that my Pathfinder that gets 16 MPG would cost $500 per month for gasoline PLUS wear and tear on it and me. Now I just sit, drink my coffee, relax, look out the window, and talk. Leave the driving up to someone else.
We are leaving tomorrow about noon for a 2 1/2 week business trip to Europe and Africa so hopefully I will be able to get one more post in before I leave. Do not know the availability of internet on the other side of the poond. If it is available I will try to communicate, if not you get a respit from my babbling.
On the TRAINS forum there is a thread regarding train brakes. One of the contributers, and engineer, added a link to a full discussion of brakes. It is well worth reading.

It was home built with EE running parts. I have a book called On a Streak of Lighteneing It’s a rundown on street railways and interurbans of canada. We still sell them at the museum if you are interested let us know. Anyhow pictures of said steeple cab and the funeral car are in the book. As to the curved siders they we double pole double ended controls ( no loops on NS&T ) the only other oddity is that the entire NS&T city and interurban districts had interurban wire height 221/2 feet so all the city cars had plateforms fitted to raise the poles to reach the overhead. BTW thanks for adding the comments to your layout pics should make everyones reading / viewing easier.[tup] Nick Thanks for the phtot site visit. The old layout pictures are not entirly mine that was a club’s layout I belonged to the scenery in question of the pictures was some work I did do there. I snapped the shots before the " big tear down " Standard old school hard shell scenery there. On the new home layiout I’m building it will be on pink foam insulation board. [yeah] The Fallen Flags idea seems to have flicked a few switches 'round here. Wish I could get the pix sent along with ‘em. There are three volumes in the series of books called, Classic American Railroads by Mike Schafer. They are well worth it … some fantastic pix, and even better info. Highly recommended for anyone’s railroadin’ library.

Good Afternoon Tom How about a CR and a round for the house.
Chris asked about the Del Monte consists under steam . The train generally consisted of a Baggage 30’ RPO a couple of coaches a diner lounge and a parlor car during the heavyweight period. The SP generally assigned a Pacific or ten Wheeler to the train. Must run for now feel like a kid again having homework at my age.

I found a picture of a WP steam loco taken in 1940 at Sacramento. It is the westbound Feather River Express, however, the angle is not very helpful in determining what type of loco nor the number of passenger cars - however, looks like a baggage, an RPO and 3 or 4 undetermined heavweight cars.

The 1932 consist for the WB Sunshine was a complicated one with lots of switching of cars en route. Take a look at some of the interline sleepers. God help you if you got off the train somewhere to buy a newspaper.

Just the way the ads were worded surely makes it clear that there was keen competition going on for the passenger’s dollars. Fast forward to today with the way the airlines do business, and it’s very evident that they could care less - for the competition, so to speak, has been greatly diminished thanx to regulations for things like hubs, paired cities, and fares. I liked it better back then …

Your Emails have arrived and on first review, I’d say they should upload nicely. The process for me is to transfer them to my hard drive - use my photo program where needed - then upload them to the cyber album. WIll tackle that in the 'morrow. Got in a “black rage” (your term) just a couple of days ago with an absolute jerk at our local Pharmacy. Seems he couldn’t provide the phone number of the place, since he wasn’t the one waiting on me! Back up … I turned in a prescription for my wife … there was a need for the prescribing Doctor to be reached by phone for clarification … I needed the Pharmacy number to give to the Doctor so they could straighten out what needed to be clarified … the lady Pharmacist who waited on me was otherwise engaged when I asked for the phone number - Idiot boy received my wrath (verbal) - when he came across rather offensive, he soon changed his tune when he noted that I wasn’t about to put up with his BS any further. [tup][:D] I agree that I had a fairly interesting higher math equasion for most likley not guessing your correct post count but afterall mathmatics is not my favourite friend.[:(!][xx(] I’m at a loss to why my photobucket accounts not working for you I shall investigate,for me I made a shortcut to it in my favourites on my pc so I’ll look and see. Any thoughts that you may have reguarding it’s malfunction are surely sought. Nick That is a good idea about using the NO trolley line to bring in supplies but from what I understood the lines are land locked away from regular rail.Also the lines themselves are likley heavilly damaged aas they were in the heavilly flooded areas from my understanding. Mind you *** is right all the authentic Pearly Thomases should be easily fixed by drying them out and lubricatinf the clones are probably now basket cases. Well gents I’m away see you all tomorrow. I was about to call in last night when we had a bad T-storm and then lost power .
If there is any left can I try an Iron City beer if not one of Nick’s Ram Rod bottles will do nicely. For a very short while Ram Rod was available on draught it was wonderful after being only available in our area in cans

Pete Power failures will do it every time - unless of course you happen to have a generator sitting out in the garage! We do and it saved our bacon (and everythng else!) during our recent 7.5 hour loss of electricity.
