CSX getting ready this morning for some big time MOW work north of DC near College Park, MD.
They have 4 high side gons full of ties, a Loram ballast cleaning set up, and were bringing in other MOW pieces by flatbed truck this morning to unload near the tracks. They have been doing a lot of work to the line out of Anacostia, driving piles, grading, moved at least one set of crossing gates, replaced a few others, etc. This was the first time I saw all the stuff in one place though.

On Saturday, October 8th, I finally got a chance to go to La Crosse with a friend, well experienced in chasing trains on a “River Run.” What follows is my photos from the day.
We started early in the morning at the BNSF La Crosse Yard, and on the BNSF side of the river. It was about Eight O’clock when we pulled up to the yard to hear a BNSF freight talking to the Dispatcher about a Northbound Signal, and getting the go ahead. So, we headed a mile or so North to a nice little spot where I snapped this photo:

Then we headed back for the yard, to see what was up. Sitting on the outer-most track was this hopper, my first personal contact with a new BNSF logo. I think with the Orange in it, it doesn’t look bad!!:

Moving ahead a little ways, we ran into this locomotive, an SD9-3, according to the BNSF, as a yard switcher:

Well, behind that SD9-3 was a BNSF eastbound Freight that had been waiting for the Westbound we shot before to clear the single track territory. He had to make a set out, and so we had plenty of time to get ahead of him.
We decided the head down to Genoa WI first, and then work our way back up. We stopped on the North Side of Genoa for these two shots, the first of the BNSF freight that was setting out, and the second another Eastbound:

And thus begun the Parade. The BNSF elected to hold all westbound traffic South of the Yard, and they ran about 4 or 5 eastbounds in a row. By the time they were done, the BNSF had three Westbounds stacked up south of the yard waiting to get in. It worked nicely, as each Eastbound gave each westbound a roll by, so we could tell how close they were
Nice pix Noah.[8D]

Too bad you didn’t catch Amtrak’s Empire Builder while you were at it.
Noah, great shots. Don’t you just love leased power. Living along the Peavine in IL is the same. On any given day it’s an easter egg hunt. You can see BN, SF, BNSF, ATSF, IC, CN, CP, UP, FURX, Conrail and an odd assortment of cars on any day. If their schedule were a little consistent it would be ideal. Willy
Thanks for the compliments guys!!
BlHanel, We heard the Empire Building come through on the CP while we were watching the BNSF. He was close to on time when he arrived, but something must have been wrong, as he didn’t get out of the station for an hour or so, or at least if we heard right on the scanner.
Willy, I love the Mixed Lease power we saw. I don’t get to see roads like NS or CSX at all, and we actually saw one of the New CSX paint scheme ones on a run through!! It was cool!!
Noah
…This morning as I was walking I heard a DS talking about getting the "FEMA train past Marion, In. and I wondered what RR that might be as I didn’t hear that part of it…and about 2 this afternoon I caught a train loaded with flat cars and they each contained a white large type vacation trailer…maybe 30’ in length coming into Muncie on the NS Frankfort line…I did mention on a post a few days ago about seeing similar consist of flat cars loaded with the same product on a siding here and the next day they were gone…I expect they are on their way south to the delta region.
