SP, SSW, & DRGW Locomotive Sightings

I saw SP 8584 today (it is still 09/15/05 out here).

In a similar vein, I spotted C&NW 8701 yesterday (9/15/05) on the Chicago-Omaha main just east of Proviso.

I caught SP 101 as the second unit at Tennyson street on an Eastbound last night. Didn’t have a camera, and probably wouldn’t have shot anyways since Tennyson St. isn’t the most scenic of crossings, but it was still interesting to see.

I saw SP 8268 and SP 334. It sure was nice to see a Southern Pacific SD40T-2 that was not patched.

This is an SD45T-2. MP 126 NS St. Louis District

I have seen two unpatched CNW units tho.

Close, it is a SD40T-2, DRGW never had SD45T-2s. The way to tell the difference is the SD40T-2 has two doors above the radiator intake, the SD45T-2 has three. Also, the cab of the SD40T-2 is further back than on the SD45T-2. A SD40T-2 will have a few feet of “porch” between the front of the nose and the front handrail or have a noticeable long nose. The SD45T-2 has about the usually distance between the nose and front handrail with a short nose.

Today in Hanford, CA SP AC4400 #239 came folling through here behind two BNSF Dash 9’s. Funny though about 10 minutes earlier another SP AC4000 came through but didn’t get the number.

I saw a BNSF M or H train that had a patched, former SP AC4400CW or 9-44CW on it. I was too far away to get the number. I also saw a westbound (northbound) BNSF intermodal on the UP.

Caught this one pushing the rear of an empty westbound coal drag Saturday.

I saw SP 8268 again today (10/10/05).

I see the SP(CEFX) 9362, SP (CEFX)9500, SP (CEFX)9400 SP (CEFX) 9392 just about everyday at work.

That is what I call fringe benefits. Now they just need to get some gray and/or red paint and cover over the CEFX reporting marks. The CEFX 9500 must have been renumbered as the SP/SSW SD45T-2s did not make it into the 9500s.

I saw SP 8268 again today. It was sitting in the yard (it looked like a crew had just arrived at it) and had an EOTD attached to its front coupler. Yesterday the SMTO told me they were using it on a local. I wonder if that local had no outgoing cars today.

I saw SP 8268 today. Hopefully it will go back into local service and stick around for a while.

I saw SP 8268 again today. It is in local service again. Hopefully it will stay on the local longer this time than last time.

I saw SP 9756 in Augusta,GA on Q197

SP 177 (? or 117) sighted 10/28/05 going through Rochelle, Illinois on a UP coal train.

Saw 117 and 334 today still in speed lettering still having evaded UPs patch fairy.
Judging by this sight
http://www.trainweb.org/utahrails/upr.html
the AC4400s are falling fast. Pretty soon (when) the SP heritage SD70ace will be the only piece of SP left.

I see unpatched SP and SSW locos with some frequency. Mostly GP60’s and GP40M-2’s used in limestone service in east Texas. Although UP had an unpatched GP40M-2 as it’s local power based out of a small yard near Mineola, TX.

I saw SP 8584 today.

Saw the SP 8586 last Monday at the new siding alongside highway 149 west of Murphysboro, it was the middle engine between two UP C40-8W’s…[xx(]
