Weekend Photo Fun 27-29 September 2013, posted by the New Guy

Gidday All, Balmy spring Friday evening, t shirt weather finally. Didn’t achieve anything visually exciting this week, though happy to have done the scaled drawings from photos of the ferry apron and counter weight mechanism. Mike Swain (one of the AMG) invited me round to see the progress hes been making weathering on his cement works modules. Got another show coming up.

Looking forward to the Really Good Stuff.

Have a Great One Folks, [:D]

Cheers, the Bear.

Assembled and weathered an Accurail kit last weekend

Just a row of ex. Rock Island boxcars. Patched to CNW and rusted up.

Installed a Wow sound Decoder in a Bachman 0-6-0 this week and the slope tender doesn’t allow much space for a speaker

It’s a good decoder but this short video shows the need for a better speaker

Way to hissy for my taste

Tempted to try a sugar cube speaker

Nothing new this week, good start on the weekend guys! [tup]

Nice work so far, everyone!

Terry,

Go for the sugarcube. I read that it’s a great way to make the WOW even sweeter from the beta testers I know.

The big project of the week was trees – 1200+ trees. My back is still hurting[:'(] but they look darn good.

Basically, they’re just the most likely familiar bumpy chenille trees. I place them mostly to be distant background and will fill in in front of them with bigger commercial trees as the budget allows. See more at:

Meanwhile, I’ve also been adding to my dual-gauge thread:

Not something you’d have seen in real-life – the C-19s were parked long before the Tunnel Motors showed up in 1974 – but it is possible through the magic of model railroading.

Good to see everybody has been pretty busy doing a lot of fine modeling. Last weekend I posted this shot of my Bar Mills background kit Shipyard Brewing Co. unfinished.

It is now finished, and I am very pleased in the way it came out. All that’s left to do is to place it on the layout.

Bear: That is an impressive industry. … Geared Steam: I like the NP box car … Robby: Box cars look great … Terry: I like the sound equipped switcher… Rick: Nice club photos… Mike L : 1200 trees! I hope they have birds nests in them. LOL … Sam: The brewery look great!

Here is a Bardwin switcher working at Union Station:

A great beginning again this week guys! Keep the photos and ideas coming.

Here is a small contribution from the BRVRR:

NYC #874, an ALCO S-3, drops a grain box car at the Farmers Union Elevator as NYC #5335 and an Eastbound freight pass each other on the mainlines.

WPF is always the best thread of the week thanks to all of you out there.

Thanks for sharing!

A little love for Walthers’ Pere Marquette this week.

My photo

It’s been a few months since I have posted an update on my Greenvale industrial area rebuild project. Summer always seems to have other ideas [;)]. I have managed to fit in a few projects, however.

I completed the last building for Deagon Cement, it is a Pikestuff Yard Office kit with a one wall expansion kit added to the length, and a scratchbuilt loading dock.

This is where the building fits in

And the overall Dragon plant scene. It still needs some scenery work around the edges and a facia panel installed

Elsewhere, I have started working on a road, and locating a propane dealer, a printing plant, and a couple of other industries. There were some issues with the road paint that I have since corrected; still a lot of work to do in this area - across the tracks from Dragon

The Weekly Herald printing plant is a Revell kit that I had on my second layout in the early 1960s. I did some restoration work on it in the late 80s for another layout, and it went back into storage when we moved on, and I had no room for it on a bedroom sized layout I had in the interim.

GPaine…Nicely done!

Can you tell us what the main building of the plant is made from? It looks like a Walther Medusa Cement and an old IHC redi mix structure but I see a couple of other pieces that I can’t identify.

Ggooler, I never seen your layout photos before. Very nice! That is looking real sharp, well done so far.

Here’s a night shot at the Cheyenne Depot Station coach yard.

the silos are Medusa Cement, the batch plant is a Kibri cement plant. They are connected by a Pikestuff Yard Office that was kit bashed to fit the junction between the two other kits. I also made some additional stairs on the Kibri kit using Centeal Valley stairs and railings kit.

EDIT: I remembered wrong, the batch plant if a Faller Cement Works, not Kibri

Sorry for the mixup. [:$]

WPF, inspiring and fun!

Just finished up coloring these rock faces I made using aluminum foil. I actually think they turned out pretty good and those Woodland Scenics colors work much better than those cheap acrylics at Wal-Mart (which are the paints I used for my tunnel portals).

Those crossing gates looks great Chad, very nicely done. I like the metal control box too. I need to get me some of those for my gates.

Chad,

More info guy! Who makes the crossbucks and gates? power source? Trigger?? We got to know! [%-)]
